Can The Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover Be Used Without The Door?

I just got the Draw Tite hitch silencer and cap. Can the silencer be used without cap?

Technically speaking? Yes, you can use the Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover # 63080 without the cap. However, the cap will keep gunk and road grime from getting inside the hitch so it is a good idea to keep it on there. Plus I would misplace either the cap or the pin to hold it in place, or both. So I do recommend keeping it on there.
