Question:
Looking for a set of appropriate tire chains for 2005 Dodge Ram Diesel. Tire size is 265/70R17E. My question concerns chains needed when I am carrying my slide in camper weighing close to 2000 lbs. Should they be a heavy duty and if so what do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

For a great set of tire chains on your 265/70-17 tires on your 2005 Dodge Ram, I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains w/ Cams - Ladder Pattern - V-Bar Link # TC2828CAM. Not only do these chains come with cam tighteners that help with getting an optimized fit, the V-bar links are a great addition. With the V-bars, the chains penetrate the snow deeper than non V-bar models to give you superior traction. As with all tire chains, since these chains measure 5.5mm thick, I recommend measuring your wheel wells to make sure you have enough clearance in order to use the chains. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows how to conduct this check. I also attached a video that shows these particular chains used on a 2008 Dodge Ram to show you how they fit.
To take the headache out of having to adjust the chains after each and every trip, I recommend the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCMA2.
One of the potential issues you may encounter with adding tire chains to your truck when hauling the camper is decreased wheel well clearance due to sag. When checking your wheel well clearance with the camper installed, if you find you need to eliminate the sag to accommodate the chains, I recommend using the SuperSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs on your rear axle. If you have a 4x4 1500, for instance, that part would be the # SSR-306-47.
In order to confirm which SuperSprings Solo model fits your particular truck, feel free to respond with your submodel of Ram pickup and I will be happy to recommend great springs for you. Also, as with all tire chains, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you are following all of the manufacturer's guidelines.
