Question:
Good Afternoon- I am looking for a set of chains for my 2018 F150 Crew Cab FX4x4 Off road. Tires 275/65-18 The manual states class S, but I trust you guys, because you sell chains. I ll be using them in Montana elk hunting on slick muddy roads and snow. What do you recommend.

Thanks so much for your trust in us! The reason why some vehicle manufacturers recommend Class S tire chains is to wash their hands of any liability if there is any damage sustained to components within the wheel wells. Since Class S chains are generally much smaller than non Class S chains, the assumption is that Class S chains will give you more space. With that being said, if you have the required wheel well clearance for non Class S chains, you can safely use the tire chains.
Since you need on-road and off-road chains, we unfortunately do not have any Class S chains that are approved for both terrains for your 275/65-18 2018 Ford F-150 tires. For the best non Class S option, the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - V-Bar Links - 1 Pair # TC2828 is a great choice. Not only is the link thickness of these chains considerably thinner than other chains (5.5mm), they also have the benefit of V-bar links for added traction on snow and ice. These chains are both on-road and off-road approved. In order to make installation easier and to have constant tension on the chains, I recommend the tensioners # TCMA2.
For a great pair of Class S compatible chains, I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link # TC2327. These chains only have a thickness of 3.7mm integrated tensioners. However, these chains are only approved for on-road use. In order to use these chains, you need to have a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself. These are generally good wheel well measurements to use for the # TC2828 as well. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows you how to conduct these measurements on your F-150.
As with all tire chains, I recommend consulting with your owner's manual to make sure that you are adhering to all of the guidelines.
