Brake Controller Wiring Colors for GM Vehicles

Updated 09/12/2009 | Published 09/10/2009

Question:

I bought one two years ago for my GM. Recently I pulled two wires out of the wire connectors by accident - both on the car side. I cant find my book and need to know what connects to the Blue, White, red, and Black since they are not labled. The wires from the car are marked: WHTE - grnd, ORG - CHMSL, Blue/WHT - CHMS?, Red/Black - Batt, DRK Blu - Aux.

On the Pilot Brake Controller, item # 80550, the wiring is as follows.

White = ground, White on Chevy
Blue = trailer brake feed, Dark blue on Chevy
Red = stop light, light blue on Chevy
Black = 12 volt power, red with black stripe on Chevy

The orange wire is of heavier guage and is not needed for the brake controller. You should use a circuit tester, 3808 if you need one, to verify the function of each wire before installation to be sure that your particular vehicle is wired the same as most of the GM vehicles. I have posted a installation video for you to review on the 2008 GMC Sierra.
