Question:
Hey I have a 2013 chevy 2500hd and when I go to hook up my trailer and plug it in it will not say trailer connected but as soon as I unhook the trailer from the ball of the truck it says trailer connected and the brakes work fine. I dont see any visible shorts on the trailer or the truck. Thanks

There are a couple things you can check to find the problem you are having with the brake controller showing no trailer is connected. It can mean there is a short on the brake signal wire on the vehicle or trailer side. Or there could be corrosion on the vehicle or trailer plug. Another option could be malfunctioning brake magnets.
I have attached a helpful article that explains how to test and find solutions to the problems with brake controllers.
