The first thing you want to do when hooking/unhooking a trailer is to get on level ground with the trailer and tow vehicle. Next, I recommend using chocks like the Buyers Products 10" Wheel Chock w/ 4-1/2" Handle - Heavy Duty Rubber # 337WC1085H in order to keep the trailer from shifting during hooking/unhooking. Then, from this point, you need to connect/disconnect wires from the tow vehicle. After this step, begin lowering the jack so that your coupler engages your ball (or disengages if you are unhooking). Secure the latch on the coupler to make sure it is locked in place. If you are hooking the trailer, you will have to remove the chocks.
It is important that you have a ball mount/ball like the ones included in the Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45534 in order to make the coupler connection/disconnect possible.
