The method you'd use to install the Redarc # RED44FR Tow-Pro Elite brake controller will depend on how your 2022 Subaru Ascent is equipped.
If you have the factory tow package which includes the 7-way trailer connector on the rear bumper, the only other parts you'll need other than the brake controller itself is the # 3062-P and the # 331-TPH-017. The # 3062-P would plug into the factory connector located above and to the left of the dead pedal, just above the kick panel as shown in the provided photo. The # 331-TPH-017 adapter would join the # 3062-P to the brake controller.
If you do NOT have the factory tow package, you'll need to hardwire in the controller. You'll begin by installing a functioning 4 pole trailer connector using # 118790. Then install the controller using our brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7. The install kit includes everything needed to complete the installation, including the wire, circuit breakers, hardware and even the adapter to convert the 4 pole provided by the # 118790 to a 7-way.
I've linked to some demonstration and product videos that you might find helpful.
