What To Do with Trailer Coupler When Switching from Surge to Electric Brakes

Hi, What is the recommended process for tongue replacement when converting to electric brakes? I currently have a tandem axel 2 place Triton enclosed trailer with hydraulic brakes.

There are a few options for the trailer coupler when switching from surge to electric trailer brakes. If the coupler has a pin that can be used to lock this out then that would be best but the other options are welding the slide or replacing it entirely. If you don't have a pin then I recommend a full replacement. In order to find a replacement you'll need to know the trailer weight and frame style. The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler part # DM15000-52 for example is for a 3" straight tongue frame and is rated up to 10,000 lbs.
