Question:
I have a Butler 2 axle equipment trailer with surge brakes and need a replacement master cylinder. The 4 3/4inch mounting bolts are right and I need to know if this master cylinder will slide into a 3 1/2inch tube where the master cylinder is mounted?

Replacement master cylinders will be brand specific, so they cannot be mixed and matched. As an example, the Titan master cylinder # T2374600 will only fit their Model 10 and Model 20, and the Demco master cylinder # 5650 will only fit their drum actuators. With that said, I was unable to find out which brand surge coupler is used on the Butler trailers, unfortunately. What you will need to do is contact Butler with your VIN, or trailer model number, and find out which was used. You will need to know the following information to make sure it is the correct one.
-Brand:
-Model:
-Disc or Drum:
-Capacity:
You may also be able to find all this info on the actuator itself. Typically it is pressed into one or both sides, but if this was painted over, it can be very hard to read and I have seen them disappear due to the amount of paint used. If you are unsure or can't make it out, definitely call and confirm with Butler.
If you can get this info back to me, I can definitely see what we have that will be a good replacement.
