Question:

I have a 2005 Honda Pilot which has the 4 pin connector for towing my 4X8 utility trailer. We are purchasing a new camping trailer GVWR 3280 and it requires a 7 pin brake controller. I have 3 questions about the Curt Echo wireless unit. 1. I assume it uses my 4 pin and passes the light controls to the trailer so how do I connect the 4 pin to the Curt? 2. As stated, I still tow a utility trailer which uses a 4 pin connector, how can I have both types 7 and 4 pin available? 3. Is the curt unit powered by the 4 pin connector.

Having a 4 Flat on your 2005 Honda Pilot definitely makes getting everything needed to use the Curt Echo # C51180 a lot easier.

With that being said, you will need to upgrade to a 7 Way to get the needed power to the Curt Echo, and our 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L will have what you need to do this. The 7 Way will piggyback off your 4 Flat as it will still provide power to the turn signal, running light, and tail light ports. The # ETBC7L also includes a wire and circuit breaker that will need to be run up to the battery to get the power needed for the Curt Echo as the 4 Flat will not provide enough for it to function.

The # ETBC7L does also include a 4 Flat mounted on the side of the 7 Way, so you will not lose the 4 Flat nor will you need an adapter to tow your other trailer.

One add-on I always recommend with the Curt Echo # C51180 is the Manual Override Button # C83HR. This will allow you to not have to rely on your smartphone after the initial set up for the manual override.
