Question:

If using this hitch for a bike rack do you have to use supporting straps as other hitch makers specify and since this is 1 1/4inch receiver can you put in an adapter to bring it up to 2inch since most bike racks for 4 bikes require 2inch receiver.

First, you do not have to use a stabilization strap for trailer hitch # 36520 when using a bike rack but you could if you wanted to for extra support.

There are many bike rack options for 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches that hold 4 bikes. The issue is that on a Class I trailer hitch, the maximum amount of bikes you can carry would be 2. A Class II trailer hitch on the other hand can handle 4 bikes.

But for a 2013 Honda CR-V there are Class III trailer hitches available like # 75742. However, you will need to check the vehicle owners manual for any hitch you choose to determine the vehicles tongue weight capacity. It is most likely going to be lower than the hitches. The lower capacity is the one you will need to go by.

If the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is 200 pounds or less then you will still need to go by the Class I rules, even if you use a higher Class trailer hitch.

What I recommend for a 4-bike rack that will fit either a 1-1/4 or 2 inch hitch, regardless of Class, go with the Swagman Titan, # S63410. If you do determine that the vehicle has Class I towing specs, you will be limited to 2 bikes even on a 4 bike rack. I have included a link to a video review for you.

If you will carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.

To carry the other 2 bikes if you end up being limited to 2 you would need to install a roof rack and use roof mount bike racks. I have included a link to the roof rack main page for your vehicle.
