How to Find Correct Trailer Hub
Updated 10/26/2021 | Published 10/25/2021 >
Question:
Hi - I have a small boat trailer that I am having a hard time finding a proper size hub for. I was hoping that I could send you guys some pics and a drawing with dimensions and that you might be able to recognize the type of swing arm axle it is and determine which hub I would need. Let me know if you can help and where I could send the pics/drawing - many thanks!

I can tell you how to determine the correct replacement hub, but we would not have any way of identifying a replacement hub from a photo. So, there are a number of things you'll need to know; first, you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them.
If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure. Additionally, you need to know your hub's wheel bolt pattern; if you do not know what it is I have added a help article which details how you can find it, as well as a printable bolt hole template you can use.
For example, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84656UC3 is for 3,500 lb axles, uses inner bearing L68149 (1.378" inner diameter), outer bearing L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) and a grease seal with a 1.719" inner diameter.
If you get back to me with this information I'd be happy to try and help you find the correct hub; I have also added a link below to our entire selection of hubs for you to come back to.
