Question:

Comparing EQ37120ET and C17500. QandA in the comparison says to choose the system based on the measured loaded tongue weight + the cargo weight placed behind the rear axle. Does this mean the cargo weight in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle or behind the rear axle of the trailer? Combo is: 2017 silverado LTZ with max-trailer package and 6.2L engine 29 ft enclosed car trailer 24ft box + 5ft tongue Total trailer wt 7000# Inside the trailer is a 3500# vehicle centered over the 2 axles. About 500# of cargo. Trailer is about 3000# dry weight Loaded tongue wt is 800-900# I also tow a travel trailer 29ft ball to bumper 9000 total loaded weight. Loaded tongue wt is about 900# Are these two hitch options the best ones for me? Im mostly interested in the best sway protection. Do you recommend one over the other...big price difference. Thx

With the loaded tongue weight of both your trailers being at or around 900 pounds, the Curt # C17500 is getting a little close to the max capacity. The weight capacity of the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET is better, but you are pretty close to the minimum capacity with the enclosed trailer. And I do agree this is quite the price difference. With that being said, I am actually going to recommend a completely different weight distribution system.

The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66560 will have a tongue weight range of 600 pounds at the minimum and 1,200 pounds at the maximum. This will suite your low end and high end weights significantly better. This also uses Friction Pads ( # RP58527) that are basically a brake shoe, so there is no metal on metal contact for the sway control. Though they will need to be replaced at some point, these do a great job of controlling and preventing sway.
