Can Vehicle with Separate Turn Signal/Brake Lights be Wired for Trailer Taillights

Published 10/20/2021

Question:

Trying to wire a 4flat/7round combo into a 2019 chevy express 3500. On the Chevy cut away chassis side of the harness there is the standard yellow, white, green, and brown wires to tap into for taillights, and directional. However the stop lights are not working. The only wire on the Chevy side that is powered when the brakes are applied is the a red wire. Do I need a powered converter box, or am I missing something? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Normally for trailer wiring the stoplight circuit is carried on the same circuit as the turn signals. Now based on the colors you mentioned this would be the green and yellow wires that you might double check. The red wire does sound like a dedicated stoplight circuit which you could use with a converter box like # RM-732 to combine the circuits to be on the same wire like what standard trailer taillight circuits use.
