Does the Trailer Valet JXC Trailer Jack Need To Be Rated for Gross or Tongue Weight

Question:

Sorry, this may be obvious to some, but not to me. Is the weight limit tongue weight or gross weight? I do not see how the gross weight would be a limit. The jack is lifting the tongue.

The weight capacity of the Trailer Valet JXC Trailer Jack part # TV54FR is 2,000 lbs therefore the tongue weight of the trailer cannot exceed this rating. It does not need to be rated rated for the gross weight of the trailer as it only lifts and supports the tongue.
