Replacing Rusted Out Gooseneck Hitch For Towing 5TH Wheel Camper With 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD

Published 10/01/2021

Question:

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500hd duramax. We purchased a 5th wheel camper that is right around and 9,000lb. The truck is set up underneath for a gooseneck hitch already, which is rusted out. Should i replace the gooseneck setup all together or purchase something universall to connect the 5th wheel? Please help!

As the current gooseneck hitch on your 2007 GMC Sierra is rusted out I would not feel safe trying to use it for hauling a 5th wheel.

I recommend replacing it with a B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1067. This hitch will fit your 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD with either the short bed or a long bed. This will maintain your clean bed and not require you to install 5th wheel rails into your bed which can get in the way when hauling certain items.

The gooseneck ball can be removed and a Companion Slider(6-1/2' Bed) # BWRVK3400 Or Companion Fixed(8' Bed) # BWRVK3500 can be dropped in when you need to tow your camper. The slider is used on the shorter bed so that when you need to maneuver your camper in tight spaces you will be able to make jackknife turns without contacting your cab to the front corners of the camper. These hitches are far superior to a gooseneck adapter for reducing chucking and road shock transfer from the camper to your Sierra.

Be sure to use a Lube Plate # RP83002 instead of grease on your pin box as this will keep things a lot cleaner and quieter.

If you do not already have a 7-way in your bed the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157 will allow you to install a 7-way in your bed side by creating a 2nd connector with the factory wiring.
