Recommended Hitch and Wiring for a 2019 Lexus GX 460 Pulling Several Trailers

Question:

What hitch and lighting connector pigtail do you recommend for my SUV? I plan to tow utility trailers and/or a 22’ Camping Trailer weighing approximately 3500 lbs. I assume a Class 3 is sufficient but need direction before I order.

For your 2019 Lexus GX 460, I do recommend a Class III hitch, like the Curt # C13043. This will have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and tongue weight of 500 pounds, which will definitely cover you. This will also bolt on very quickly and requires no drilling to get installed.

The wiring is a bit more complicated, but the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat # 119250KIT will be my recommendation. Though you will need to run a line to the battery, this will not need any cutting or splicing into the wiring on your vehicle. This will protect all the computers on your vehicle as well. This will only power lights on a trailer though, so if any of the trailers have brakes, you will need a couple other parts.

Our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7 will piggyback off of the # 119250KIT and will get you up to the needed 7 Way plug. It does also include a 4 Flat, so you will not need an adapter if any of the trailers do not have brakes. After the # ETBC7 is installed, you will also need a brake controller, like the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160. This is an easy to use and set up controller that I highly recommend.

As you mentioned pulling multiple trailers, I also highly recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10048B if you do not have a ball mount picked out as of yet. This has 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" balls already attached and up to 5" of drop or 5-1/2" of rise, but we do have different options available with more or less drop/rise if needed as well. One of the really nice things about the B&W Tow & Stow ball mounts is that, when not in use, you can flip the ball platform to the other side of the shank so you wont smack your shins into it. Speaking from personal experience, this hurts. A lot.

The only other thing you will need is a pin and clip to hold the ball mount in place. The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch - Flush - 2-5/8" Span - Stainless Steel # e98882 will keep everything in place and will keep anyone from walking away with your stuff. It is also able to be keyed alike so multiple locks can use the same key number if needed.
