Recommended Tonneau Cover For A 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:
Best choice of either tonneau cover for 2021 GMC 1500 crew cab short bed with pro tail gate or do you have better choice than these two? Also, what is the advantage of vinyl cover on Exceed? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
The Extang Xceed Hard Tonneau Cover # EX85456 has a few differences from the Leer Hard Tonneau Cover # LE82FR. One being that the Extang has the vinyl cover over the folds. This will slightly help with wind resistance and waterproofing while also providing a cleaner look. The Extang has aluminum and vinyl design while the Leer has a fiberglass and reinforced plastic design. Both are low profile - inside bedrail covers that will clamp on to the inside of the bedrails. Both have similar latching/unlatching designs for folding up and folding down the cover panels.
For those reasons, out of the two I recommend the Extang. It also sits slightly less over the bedrails which would allow you to install certain stake-pocket mounted ladder racks down the line if needed without having to replace the tonneau cover as well.
As for the pro-tailgate, neither of these covers will be affected by tailgate design.
