To use the Roadmaster Even Brake Braking System, # RM-9400, in your 2011 HHR, you will simply install the braking system using the installation instructions that came with the Even Brake system. The only difference in the installation is that you will use the 2nd Vehicle Kit, # RM-98400, instead of the parts that were included with the Even Brake system.
The first step to install this kit is to find a suitable location for the breakaway switch and the ICX transmitter. The breakaway switch it typically installed near the front bumper on the drivers side. The ICX transmitter can be installed anywhere that the power cord from the Even Brake system can reach.
The next part of the installation is going to depend on how your tail lights operate and what type of lighting system you are using for your HHR. If you plan on using a magnetic tow light kit like part # RM-2120, then you do not need to install the brake light relay that is included with this kit.
If you will be installing a diode kit like part # RM-154, then we need to determine if your brake lights illuminate when you step on the brake pedal with the engine off. If your brake lights do not illuminate when you step on the brake pedal with the engine off, then you do not need to install the brake light relay. If your brake lights do illuminate with the engine off, then you will need to install the brake light relay. This is also detailed in the installation instructions.
