Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Applies Full Force When Brakes are Touched
Updated 08/16/2021 | Published 08/15/2021 >
Question:
When we have device paired and I just lightly touch the brake, the controller goes to full brake. Does it matter if we are testing while vehicle is in park? There are times it has worked great, but twice now it has happened. Can you help?

That sounds like a short between the brake output circuit and one of the stop/turn circuits most likely on the trailer wiring due to cut or exposed wire. You can test this pretty easily by putting on one of the blinkers and seeing if the brakes apply with the blinker. If this is the case the issue would be solved by going over the trailer wiring between those two circuits and fixing the short as needed.
I attached a help article on brake controller troubleshooting for you to check out as well.
