Question:

Your expert recommended Curt part # C11473 But I saw another note on your site that said the Drawtite hitch for a Prius was more versatile boat and bike. The small boat plus trailer weigh no more than 250#. I want my hitch to work for both. Can you please tell me which hitch and wiring to get for my brand new 2021 Prius XLE AWD-e receiver and wiring for versatile use for boat or bike. The Drawtite Company technical support staff said to order Part 779-66 but could not guarantee it would fit the XLE AWD-e they had had no complaints and assumed it would Thank you!!

Both the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11473 and Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966 will fit on your 2021 Toyota Prius XLE AWD-e. We have received reviews for both receivers confirming fitment on their Prius XLE AWD-e models.

I recommend using the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966 based on the construction of the receiver. The plate steel used to connect the receiver to the cross tube tells me that there is a lot more left to right rigidity versus the Curt that uses 2 brackets on each side of the receiver to mount to the cross tube. The Draw-Tite is rated for 200lbs of tongue weight and 2,000lbs with a class I receiver. Be sure to not exceed Toyota's vehicle ratings for your Prius. This will work well for towing your boat or carrying a bike rack.

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C69KR is confirmed to fit your Prius. It will give you a 4-way flat connector that most small trailers use to operate the taillights on the trailer. A Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3594 and 2" # 19258 or 1-7/8" # 19256 hitch ball will allow you to tow your small boat trailer.

For a bike rack I recommend the Thule Apex XT 2 Bike Rack # TH9024XT. This carrier will allow you to carry 2 bikes up to 37.5lbs each. When you need to access your rear storage the rack will tilt back allowing you access to the compartment. Built in locks ensure that your carrier and bikes are secured to your Prius when you are out on your bike or leaving your bike on your Prius. Some Auxiliary Lights # C53201 can be used if your bikes block the view of your taillights on your Prius.
