Can the Ground Wire On the Adapter 4 Way to 7-Blade RV Connector Be Attached To a Smaller Ground
Updated 07/21/2021 | Published 07/20/2021 >
Question:
I have ordered this item to replace something that is very similar to this item except my old one didnt have test lights. This item has two white wires - one thin and one thick. The thin one is connected to the 4-way plug of this item. The thick one is connected to the ground in the 7-way socket of this item, and it is supposed to be attached to vehicle frame. In my old one, the thin white wire is actually NOT connected to anything. Its wire end is actually free and is wrapped inside the black protective tubing. My question is whether I can connect the thick white wire directly to the free end of the thin white wire instead of connecting to the vehicle frame. What is the down side of not connecting to the vehicle frame?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The white wire on the Adapter 4 Way to 7-Blade RV Connector part # C96KR is the ground and needs to be attached to a bare metal surface. The frame is best but the underside of the body will work as well. This can be done with a self-tapping screw. I recommend not extending this wire or attaching it to any other wire as the size of the wire is important and will play a role into proper operation.
