Question:

Hello- I have an etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2inch mounted on my 2017 Subaru Forester. Im wondering if there is a way to increase ground clearance for my hitch mounted cargo box so that Im less likely to bottom out. Would love to know any part recommendations. My other concern is that while the tongue weight of the hitch is 500lb, I believe, the TW of the car is only 200lb, and Ive read that these adaptors might decrease TW capacity. Does that apply to the hitch, only, or the car TW too? Also Im looking for the best straps to secure cargo such as camping crates, a cooler 33lb dry weight, so more when packed, etc. Use would be for relatively long road trips. Wasnt sure about cam straps vs. ratchet, pros and cons, etc. thanks

There sure is!

First you are correct that according to the owner's manual of your 2017 Subaru Forester you are limited to a 200lbs tongue weight.

Since you have the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98839 installed on your 2017 Subaru Forester has a 525lb tongue weight rating you can use a dual hitch adapter # MT70070 which will reduce the tongue weight capacity by 50%, and not the capacity of your vehicle. This will still allow you to use the fully 200lb tongue weight capacity of your Forester and get the additional ground clearance you are needing.

When it comes to straps for securing cargo to a cargo carrier I lean towards ratchet straps over cam buckle straps. This is because some cam buckle straps can come loose, where a ratchet strap locks into place and will not come loose until you want them to.
