How To Safely Carry A Kayak On 2012 Toyota Prius C

Question:
I had a 2 inch hitch installed on the back of my Prius, semi-planning to get a trailer for 12’ kayak. This looks way easier if it would work... put the kayak in as far as dashboard and let this support the overhang? I would be using this transport only for short distances. What do you think?

The Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender - 2" Hitches # MPG907 would certainly fit the 2" receiver on your 2012 Toyota Prius C. If I am understanding you correctly, you are wanting to leave the rear hatch opened so that the kayak can be sitting inside your car, and then use this load extender to support the rear of the kayak. This may work as it is definitely designed to help support loads that extend past the vehicle, however, I am not sure that this would be the best option as you may not have a good way to secure the kayak inside your vehicle and you would need to leave the rear hatch opened.
I checked the owner's manual and Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer with this vehicle. I think the best option here is to install a roof rack such as Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars 41" # RRVA106B-2 with the necessary Legs # RRRLKVA and Fit Kit # DK351. You could simply put the kayak directly on the roof rack and secure it, or go the safer route and install a kayak carrier such as Malone Deluxe Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG152. I attached a couple demonstration videos for you.
