Looking for a hitch that fits a 1997 Chevy sport side Silverado
asked by: Mario G
Expert Reply:
The hitch you choose will depend on your rear bumper type on your 1997 Chevrolet Pickup.
For a standard or step rear bumper the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14081 is a class IV hitch with a 2" receiver. Maximum trailer weight is 10,000lbs and 1,000lbs tongue weight with standard hitch. A weight distribution hitch will allow for 12,000lbs of trailer weight and 1,200lbs of tongue weight. Be sure not to exceed the weight ratings given by Chevrolet for your specific truck.
If you have a roll pan rear bumper the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13942 is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. Maximum towing is 5,000lbs and 500lbs of tongue weight with standard hitch. Weight distribution will allow for 8,000lbs towing and 800lbs of tongue weight. Again you will want to check with Chevrolet for your maximum towing for your truck.
