What Does Weight Capacity Of Trailer Leaf Spring Mean?

Question:
I see weight numbers for leaf springs, 1500 pounds each, 2000 pounds each, etc. What exactly does that mean? Does it mean the spring deflects a certain distance with that much weight, or does it mean that it totally flattens out, removing all the arch that is built into the spring?

The spring capacity is the weight the spring is designed to support.
For example the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e57SR you were looking at is designed for 4000lb axles, meaning each spring can support 2000lbs. When the leaf spring is loaded to 2000lbs it will not totally flatten, and should only deflect about 1-1/2".
To make sure that the spring is correct for your axle you will need to fit the axle rating, and the length of of the leaf spring measured from center of spring eye to center of spring eye.
To find the axle rating you will want to look for the axle tag on the center of the axle which has the axle rating on it. If the tag is missing you can use the GVWR of the trailer and divide it by the number of axles on the trailer to get a rough idea on the rating.
When measuring the leaf spring you will want the axle off the ground with no weight on the spring, as the spring stretches' when under load and would give you an inaccurate measurement.
The # e57SR is for 4000lb axles and measures 25-1/4" from center of spring eye to center of spring eye as shown in the included diagram. If this matches your current leaf spring this would be a great replacement option.
