Expert Reply:
For a breakaway switch I recommend going with the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - Top Load # 20400 as it includes the battery with a built in battery charger and tester needed.
To wire the # 20400 you will make the following connections:
Black wire from the battery to the 12v power wire from your 7-way connector
White wire from the battery to the ground wire on your 7-way connector
Blue wire from breakaway switch to brake output wire running to your trailer brakes
Black wire from break away switch to blue wire from battery
You will want to use heat shrink butt connectors # DW05744-5 and # DW05745-5 to make sure all of your connections are secure and weather tight.
I included the written instructions, an installation video of the # 20400, and a wiring diagram for you to take a look at.
