To install a trailer brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR you were looking at in your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg you will need a few components that will need to be purchased from your local Volkswagen dealer.
These parts are Connector Housing which is VW part number 1J0-972-782, and two wire terminals which are VW part number 000-979-228 which will allow you to plug in directly to the factory trailer brake controller port underneath the dash of your vehicle.
While we have not had a chance to install the # RED44FR in a Touareg yet, we did install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 and made a video showing exactly how to wire the brake controller with the VW parts mentioned as you can see in the included video.
The wiring portion will be exactly the same between the two controllers, but the mounting of the controller will be different so I went ahead and included a video of the # RED44FR being installed in a different vehicle to show you how to mount the controller.
I linked the videos mentioned a helpful article on making the harness for you to take a look at.
