How Do You Know The PSI Rating Of A Valve Stem On A Trailer Wheel?

Question:

I currently have 6 ply, load range C tires, on my boat trailer with inflation pressure of 50 psi. The trailer is a double axle. I had one of the tire treads completely separate from the rest of the tire while under tow on the freeway. Im thinking of upgrading and getting the Taskmaster Provider load range D tire. One of your QandAs answered a question similar to mine and said the current rims should work fine, but the person would need to check the capacity of the valve stems. How do you determine the capacity of the valve stem to accommodate the higher pressure of 65 psi if the tires were upgraded to a load range D tire? Also, can the valve stem just be changed if the current rim is used? Thank you

The Provider ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # TTWTRTM2157514D you were looking at is a great choice to replace the tires on your boat trailer as the increased load capacity of 2200lbs at 65 PSI will keep the tire running cooler and reduce the chance of a blow out.

There is really no for sure way to know the PSI rating of your valve stems, so I recommend going ahead and replacing them when having the new tires installed. I recommend going with the Americana Rubber, Snap-In Valve Stem - 1-1/4" Long - Up to 65 psi # AM20903 as it will work with 65 PSI and is cheap insurance that everything has the proper rating. It is common to go ahead and replace the valve stem when installing new tires anyways.
