Question:

I used Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for the 2009 Dodge Caliber 18552 Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, along with this part C57674. I first installed the custom fit wiring. Once I completed that I followed the video, I then pluged the 4 way from that wiring into the 4 way of hte C57674, I then ran the black wire into the same black wiring that I used for the 4 way, I then grounded the white wire. On the C57674 the 12v indicator light came on. I plugged in my small pop-up camper and turned my car on. Im able to turn on and off the outside camper lights, but the turn signals, and running lights are not working on my small camper. They work find on my car. What am I missing? The blue wire isnt needed as I dont have a trailer break, and the yellow wire is for reverse, I dont need that either, as this trailer doesnt have reverse lights.... so Im clearly missing something. I know my brand new campers 7 way works just fine, I got my aunts brand new truck and plugged it in and the turn signals work and running lights work. Any help?

The first step that I would take to troubleshoot this issue is to sever the 12 volt power wire from the Curt 7 Way Adapter, # C57674, from the power wire of the Tow Ready 4 Way Wiring Harness # 118552. The 12-volt power wire from the Curt 7-way adapter should run directly to the vehicle battery via a 40-amp inline circuit breaker, # 9510. If you do not want to have to run another power wire to the vehicle battery, then you will want to install the 10-amp inline fuse from the 4-way harness before the connection with the power wire from the 7-way adapter and install the 40-amp breaker after the splice (see photo). Also, check that each ground wire is attached to a clean, bare metal surface, or to the negative terminal of the vehicle battery.

Once you have that connection separated or adjusted and have checked all ground connections, start by testing the pins on the Curt 4-pole and 7-pole adapters for proper taillight functions. For this you will need a circuit tester like # PTW2993. I have also attached a diagram that shows which pins carry which functions so you can test the correct pins for each function.

If you are not getting any taillight functions at the Curt Adapter, then we will need to test the 4-way connector from the Tow Ready Custom wiring harness because this will supply the stop, turn and running light functions for the 7-way adapter. Again, check for a proper ground connection first. Test each pin on the 4-way connector as each taillight function is activated. If you have no signal at this connector, then test the wires from the taillights going into the converter box. If you have signal on the wires from the taillights, but no signal reaching the 4-way connector, then the converter box likely went bad and would need to be replaced.

If you are unable to find a solution or the cause of the problem, then let me know what you come up with after following these steps and we can do further troubleshooting.
