Hi, I have a 2009 Ford F150 without the factory tow package. I need to add a 7 pin trailer connector. Do you have a plug-in solution for this truck or do I need to splice into the wiring harness? Thanks,

For your 2009 Ford F-150 without the tow package, you will need to splice into the wiring in order to install a 7 Way trailer adapter.

If you do not already have a 4-Way plug-in on your vehicle, you first need to start with the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit # 18252, which will splice into the tail lights / turn signals on your vehicle. This kit comes with a circuit tester which you will need for the install. I have attached a demonstration video.

After the 4-pole kit is installed, you can go ahead and install a 4-Way to 7-Way kit. If you will not be needing electric brake plug in, go with the Curt 4-Way to 7-Way # C57672. This will plug into the 4-way adapter, and then you will have to run a power wire and ground wire.

If you want to install a brake controller for electric brakes, go with the Universal 7-Way to 4-Way Kit # ETBC7. You will be plugging this into the 4-way plug and then splicing the blue wire into the blue output wire on the brake controller, along with wiring in the power wire (black) and ground wire (white).

Next, you will need a brake controller if you want electric trailer brakes. I recommend the Curt Assure Trailer Brake Controller # C49UR along with Universal Wiring Adapter # C51515.
