Published 01/13/2021

Question:

I have a 2014 MBenz GLK with a Curt 2 Trailer hitch receiver. We are purchasing a trailer and need to get a 2 hitch ball where the height from the ground to the middle of the ball is 17?. The top of the 2 inch curt trailer hitch receiver is 12 from the ground. What 2 hitch ball would I need to purchase so the middle of the ball is 17 from the ground?

To get your ball to the height you are wanting on your 2014 Mercedes Benz GLK I recommend using an adjustable mount. I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 7.5K - Black Item # BWTS10038B. It provides a 1-7/8" ball and a 2" ball for different trailer couplers and fits 2" receivers. It is going to provide a 5-1/2" rise so it is going to provide the adjustability you are looking for. I recommend making sure the trailer doesn't exceed the weight capacity of the ball mount.

The problem we come to is where you want the ball to sit from the original position on the hitch. If your hitch is sitting at 12" from the ground now, we recommend 13", so really you would only need about a 2" rise. Since you want the ball to sit at 17", which I think is going to make your trailer tongue sit too high, is why I suggested the adjustable mount. We do offer non adjustable mounts that are less expensive but again you have no adjustability if the trailer is too high. I recommend the Draw-Tite Ball Mount - 4-3/4" Rise, 6" Drop - 10-1/4" Long - 6,000 lbs Item # 40346 with the 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter x 2-1/8" Long Shank - Chrome - 6,000 lbs. The mount with a 4-3/4" rise should get the center of ball about where you want it. If you find that the rise is too much then I would go with the Curt Fusion Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 2" Ball - 2-1/4" Rise - 7,500 lbs Item # C45155. This gives you a 2" rise and comes with the ball mounted.
