Question:

Was reading some of the Q and A about wedges for sidewinder hitches pertaining to the curt a16. I saw that It said the q16 is not compatible with these sidewinder pin boxes was curious why?

That's a good question because it can be confusing, but the Curt Q16 fifth wheel hitch technically no longer exists, as it was discontinued and replaced by the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16120.

The A16 hitch used to be compatible with a Sidewinder so long as you use the Sidewinder Wedge for Curt A Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # C16992, but the old, discontinued Q16 was not (nor are the current Q-series of hitches) due to its head unit having an axial bearing system that created too much movement for the Sidewinder and was not deemed safe.

All of that being said, the current versions of the Curt A-Series and Q-Series are NOT compatible with sidewinders. Instead, you'll want something like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115 with Sidewinder wedge # C16991.
