Is There a 3/8" Pin for a Coupler Latch Lock
Updated 12/11/2020 | Published 12/09/2020 >
Question:
I just bought a new tear trailer and the manufacturer suggested that I bring a 3/8 inch coupler pin with a 3-inch + span so I could tow it away from the shop. I found one, but would now like to replace it with a locking coupler pin of the same size. All I can find, though are 1/4-inch locking coupler pins. Does someone make a 3/8 inch locking coupler pin? And if possible, Id like to buy a matching 2-inch hitch receiver locking pin with matched keys. Any suggestions? One last question... If I cant buy a 3/8-inch coupler pin, can I safely use a 1/4-inch? Thanks

The pins used in the latch hole on a trailer coupler are not actually holding anything together. They are simply an anti-theft mechanism which stops anyone from being able to open the latch and either uncoupling or coupling the trailer with the pin left installed. I supposed they could also be looked at as a fail safe while out on the road as well. That said, the pins are all 1/4" so I think the manufacturer may have confused that part. I recommend the Master Lock Hitch Receiver and Coupler Latch Lock Set part # 1481DAT.
