Question:

I am looking to replace the stock hitch receiver on my Ford F-350 with a CURT 15410 Trailer Hitch Receiver. My stock receiver has both the 7 way and 4 way trailer wire plugs mounted to the hitch receiver on a plate that is screwed in to the back of the factory hitch receiver. Would it be okay to drill two small holes in the Curt 15410 hitch receiver to mount the wire plugs the same way?

We always suggest avoiding any drilling or alteration of a hitch if at all possible.

We do offer a no-drill mounting bracket extension that attaches to a hitch with a steel ring clamp, but due to the very large size of the main tube on this hitch the supplied 12-inch ring clamp will not fit. You could adapt it to fit if you can find a ring clamp that is 15 inches or longer. We do not stock such a part, but if you can find one locally then this extension bracket, which is 3 inches wide x 6-1/2 inches long, part # C57202, would work without any drilling required. Your trailer connector bracket would then bolt on to this extension plate.

A simpler option may be to find a suitable location on your vehicle to mount the connector bracket, such as the bottom of the bumper.

If you need a new mounting bracket for your trailer connector, you can use the Pollack (Hopkins) 7- and 4-way Replacement Bracket, part # HM40978. Your existing factory trailer connector simply snaps into place in this replacement bracket.
