Question:
I have a Spartan trailer with a 1 1/4 inch square axle. Have seen these on other old boat trailers also. I suspect the axle is solid stock, not tubular, but have not drilled it to find out. In any case, I caught a wheel in the bottom of a poorly maintained boat ramp and the spindle and/or axle is bent, so Im looking at straightening or replacing the axle. Im not finding this style of axle to be readily available. Your advice? Thanks!

Your best option will definitely be to replace the entire axle. There's a decent chance that some damage was done to the axle during your recent mishap beyond the slight bend that could compromise it's integrity going forward.
We don't have any square axles similar to what you described having on your boat trailer, but a really good option for replacement is a Timbren Axle-Less System like 3,500lb # ASR3500S05. With this setup you don't need to worry about finding the exact same length as your existing unit, as the two independent units simply bolt onto each side of the trailer frame and accommodate any trailer width. In addition to a simpler install, this system also allows for a smoother ride than you're likely used to when towing. The main concern is just making sure you choose the appropriate capacity for your loaded trailer.
I have attached a short video review on 3,500lb Axle-Less System below, along with a link that will take you to our complete selection.
