I just bought a 2020 Mazda Miata Grand Touring. I currently own a Kuat Sherpa 2 - 2inch bike Rack. Can I use an adapter with the 1-1/4 hitch receiver ? If so, would I need to use support straps? Thank you!

Using a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter isn't my favorite solution for situations like yours as the adapters end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half and also add quite a bit of movement. Since lighter duty vehicles like your 2020 Mazda MX-5 only have the 1-1/4 inch hitch size available the best recommendation I can make is a rack designed for this hitch size like the Sherpa that fits this hitch size part # SH12G.
