Question:
I need to order a rack receiver for my 2001 Lexus LS430 I will need to get additional accessory straps to use with my Thule T2 platform rack with 1.25inch receiver. My concern is that it appears I need a stabilizing strap to keep the bike rack stable, but I need a setup that wont scratch damage my trunk. Can you point me towards the right strap combination?

For your 2001 Lexus LS 430, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12231, a Class I 1-1/4 inch receiver perfect for your Thule T2 TH9045 and is custom fit for your vehicle. It features bolt-on installation with no welding required. It is made in the US and includes the drawbar, pin and clip.
I have included instructions for the proper installation of this product on your car. I have also included a video showing the installation of your bike rack on a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. While it is not the same car as your Lexus, the installation is similar.
Regarding the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap # 18050 you referenced, the strap is necessary when using a Curt hitch as their warranty states a strap must be used on all their Class I, II, and III hitches. For your 2001 Lexus, the strap would attach to the front side of the trunk deck lid close to the glass, following the trunk lid across and down to the bike rack. Over time, there is a good chance the strap could wear down the finish, depending upon how often you use the bike rack.
