Question:
I have been told by Audi that the retaining clip/connector for trailer plug-in is damaged on the wiring harness. Apparently its the piece behind the 7 pin plug in that holds those pieces together. Audi can only get the German made piece, as they go through Audi only. They ordered the part but found out it doesnt fit the American made 7 pin plug that I had installed. I went to another dealer and he doesnt seem to know what Im talking about. Before I go to somewhere else Id like to see if you can help me find the right part to order. Retaining clip/connector on wiring harness for trailer hitch. I need your help.

It sounds as if you need the pigtail that connects to the American spec 7-way, is that correct? If so, you'd need part # PK11998. It's also sold together with the # HM40975 connector as part # HM40975-11998.
If you're speaking of the gray retaining clip, it is included with the # PK11998 pigtail, but it's not available as a separately sold item. The product description page for the # PK11998 pigtail provides the wire color coding if you scroll down the page I've linked for you a bit.
