What can you recommend for a 3-bike rack and the required hitch to fit on our 2009 Clubman?

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11387 is designed to fit your 2009 Mini Clubman it is the only hitch available and is a Class 1. This means it is only rated to carry a two bike rack. With that said the Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack part # S64670 is a great rack that is very easy to use. Or the awesome Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack part # TH903202 you checked out.
There is a solution to use the roof to carry the extra bike or eliminate the hitch and rack and get all of the bikes on the roof. If you would like to explore this option let me know if you have a bare roof or a set of rails that run front to back on your roof.
For an alternative to that you can use the SeaSucker Bomber Roof 3 Bike Rack part # 298-BB3008 as a roof mount option that does not require a base rack.
