Angle of hitch ball on Reese 1200 trunion hitch
Updated 07/20/2009 | Published 07/17/2009 >
Question:
Should the hitch ball be straight up or tilted slightly rearward? Pulling a 32 foot travel trailer. The height of the ball is okay to make the trailer perfectly levelfront to back.

Tilting the hitch ball on your weight distribution system is a final adjustment to get the trailer perfectly level and apply the correct amount of tongue weight. You need to make this adjustment, if needed, after the the vehicle and trailer are loaded and ready for travel. If you are perfectly level, when fully loaded, and the ride is good with the hitch ball straight up no further adjustments are needed. If you need to add tongue weight for a better ride then you may find that you need to adjust the angle of your hitch ball, spring bars and or ball height.
I have posted a link to instructions for a trunnion style system that explains how to adjust the angle of the ball mount in more detail.
