Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 Trailer 1,800 lb Tongue Weight
Updated 10/17/2017 | Published 10/16/2017 >
Question:
I own a 2016 Work and Play Model 34WRS 40foot Toyhauler. Hitch Wt 1800 lbs. UVW 9813 lbs. GVWR 14000 lbs. Should I try to find a weight distribution hitch that matches my hitch weight or GVWR? My tow vehicle is a 2015 GMC 2500 Denali. I have installed Sumo Helper Springs on it. Do you have a recommendation on a Distribution hitch?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
For the weight of your trailer at 9,813 lbs the tongue weight you listed of 1,800 lbs is on the higher side. Normally it's between 10 and 15% but yours is 20%. Not saying it's impossible but that's unusually high.
We do have a Blue Ox system that would work for that though, part # BXW2000 which has a tongue weight range of 1,500 to 2,000 lbs. The shank that comes with it is for a 2-1/2 inch hitch.
