Can SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs be Cut to Fit Trailer Correctly

Question:

I have a Keystone Cougar Half Ton trailer 26RBS with Dexter D44 4400 lb overslung axles. My concern is that there is not enough clearance between the top axle plate and the frame. I measure slightly under 5 inches. In an answer to someone elses question, it is stated that the spring and bracket is 7-3/4 inches tall, but mentioned that it is permissible to cut a coil or two off the urethane spring. Please confirm that cutting two coils off would be sufficient for fitting into the clearance I have and that the manufacture supports this modification. The reason I am interested in the SumoSpring is that there is very little clearance between the tires and the floor of the RV and the tire has bumped against it and torn underbelly material.

You definitely can cut the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-107-40 to fit your application if you don't have enough room. We have confirmed this with SuperSprings on multiple occasions.

You might also want to make sure that you haven't overloaded your trailer and that your leaf springs are in good shape. Unless you put larger tires on your Keystone Cougar 26RBS than what came as stock you shouldn't be having the tires bump up against the underbelly material unless you are flying down the road and hitting bumps.
