Can An Aftermarket Trailer Hitch Be Installed On a 2007 Toyota Tundra If Bumper Is Replaced
Question:
I have done a lot of salt water boat-launching with my 2007 Tundra and my rear bumper and factory hitch need to be replaced. Toyota recently put a brand new frame in my truck due to a frame defect, so it should be possible to get some more good years out of the truck. Many of the class 5 hitches you carry state they won’t fit trucks with “factory installed hitches”. Am I correct to assume this is because one would have to also replace the bumper? Since my intention is to buy a cheaper after market bumper anyhow Will I be able to use one of these class 5 hitches? Thanks!

The factory trailer hitch options for a 2007 Toyota Tundra are tied into the rear bumper helping to provide extra support. This is why the factory trailer hitch cannot be replaced with an aftermarket trailer hitch as these do not tie into the bumper. However, if you were to remove the factory bumper in light of any aftermarket bumper you could then install an aftermarket hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15398.

But do you sell the adapter part to reconnect the bumper to the hitch? Looks like I could have something fabricated but could be expensive.
