Updated 06/15/2020 | Published 06/11/2020 >
Question:
I want to install a hitch onto my 2012 VW golf. I want to put a dirt bike hanging off the hitch. The goal is to have the bike sit perpendicular to the direction of the car and just hang off the back of the car connected to the hitch. the bike ways about 240lbs. Will this hitch be strong enough to hold the bike safely? Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon.

There is not a good way to connect a motorcycle to the back of your Golf using a carrier. Your bike weighs 240 lbs. not including the carrier and this hitch has a weight capacity of 200 lbs. listed on the product page. With that said you will be well over capacity.
You can use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11000 and the Tekonsha Upgraded Heavy Duty ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119190KIT for a hitch and wiring and use it to pull a small trailer. This will keep you within the weight capacities listed for the hitch. Which are 200 lbs of tongue weight and 2000 lbs. of gross trailer weight. Be sure to check your owner's manual to ensure the vehicle is rated this high or do not exceed what it is rated for.
It is required you use the Curt Class II Drawbar part # C45016 and any 2" ball with a 3/4" shank like part # A-82 and pin and clip part # F-4.
