Question:
My question is about hydraulic brake couplers. I am replacing my UFP A60 coupler and I am considering a Demco DA86 as a replacement. I think the Demco weight capacity is quit a bit more than my current coupler. Is there any issues with me going with a larger capacity coupler? I don’t want to have negative braking conditions or anything like that. My boat is an 2005 Aqua Sport 215 Ospry Sport dual console, 200 Hp with a 2012 Karavan 2 axle disc with brakes. Thanks

From what I was able to determine with some research, your boat's dry weight is around 4100-lbs and the trailer weighs around 1000-lbs, so when you add fuel and other cargo you're probably in the 5500-lbs range (the GVWR of a Karavan tandem axle trailer is around 5700-lbs). At the end of the day, you really don't need the Demco D86B # 8608611 on this trailer and you'd likely experience some reduced braking conditions because of the size difference in the trailer and actuator.
Since your current UFP A60 has a capacity of 6000-lbs, your best solution is to stay with something around that capacity. I recommend going with the Demco # DM62VR, which is the DA66B and will be a good fit for your trailer and application. This actuator has a 700lbs TW and 7000-lbs GTW capacity and will work with the disc brakes on your trailer. If your tongue weight on the loaded trailer is above 600-lbs you can use the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-20, which will give you a bit of extra weight to work with. This is about as high as I would consider going with your boat and anything higher may not fully actuate the brakes.
I've linked some review videos on these parts that I recommend having a look at, as well.
