Question:
1 1/4inch shank diameter seems to be standard as does a 1 1/2inch hole, but Curt says the hole can be a maximum of 1/16inch larger diameter than the shank.. Where am I going to find a trailer ball with a 1 7/16thinch shank width?

You wouldn't most likely. The ball hole you'd need to have in your ball mount to use the hitch ball # C49FR would need to be 1-1/4 inch. There might be some slightly variance but this dimension is pretty standard. The hitch ball # C45312 is an example of a ball mount that fits this.
