Question:
I need help purchasing parts for a 2013 FJ Cruiser. At the moment the FJ needs the relay/converter/fuse kit to establish the factory 4-pin connection. That said, I want to install a 7 pin receiver not a 4-pin and then later this year install the CURT Spectrum brake controller. What kit / parts are required to complete this task?

I'd be happy to recommend parts for that. If you wanted to spare some expense on the factory wiring, I'd recommend using the Tekonsha # 118405 wiring harness. The harness plugs inline between the factory wiring harness and the taillight assemblies to establish connection for the taillight signals. The power drawn directly from the battery by running a fused circuit under the vehicle to the engine bay. No relays are necessary. Once you reach that point, since you'll be installing the Curt # C51170 Sepctrum at some point you'll install our # ETBC7 Brake Controller Installation Kit. The kit includes everything needed for the install, including the adapter to convert the 4 pole provided by the # 118405 to a 7-way.
I'll link you to some resources that will help walk you through the install, including some help articles and install videos.Once of the videos shows a different controller being installed on a 2013 FJ Cruiser. Even though the controller is different, the procedure shown would be exactly the same. I've also linked an install video for the wiring harness I mentioned, also shown on a 2013 FJ Cruiser.
