Solution for Towing Travel Trailer with 2005 F-250 with Tailgate Down and Golf Cart in Truck Bed
Updated 05/15/2020 | Published 05/13/2020 >
Question:
Hello I have a short bed F250 pulling a 8k travel trailer. I want to take my golf cart in the bed, but the Golf cart keeps me from closing the tail gate. Also the trailer is too close with the tailgate open as well. I was thinking about using a hitch extender? Which one do you recommend I use? Or any other ideas. I am currently using a load distribution hitch.

Since you're using a weight distribution (WD) system you should be able to simply swap out the shank for one that is longer like the 18" Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600. This is rated for 600 lbs - 1,400 lbs tongue weight and should match up exactly with what you currently have.
This is actually a common solution for people with your conundrum. If you check out the product page you can see that other RVers have been successful with leaving their tailgate down while towing a travel trailer using this shank.
