Question:
What is the diameter? and can the vacuum breaker itself be installed sideways? ie: the part that sticks up be dropped two inches? Doemtic 310 vacum breaker isthe subject matter

The Replacement Vacuum Breaker Kit # DOM86FR that you referenced is the correct kit for your Dometic 310 series. The thickness will be right at 1 inch. It does need to install right side up and not sideways.
